Skulski, David

Musician

Well known to the musical world in Vancouver, David Skulski was appointed solo English Horn with the Vancouver Symphony at the age of 17. After leaving the VSO he played with the CBC Radio orchestra and the Orquesta Sinfónica de Xalapa (Mexico). On returning to Canada, because of his interest in historical music, he founded Early Music Vancouver. Subsequently he was Resident-in-Music at Simon Fraser University, taught renaissance music in Austria, founded and directed The Towne Waytes (renaissance band) and Harmonie (18th C. Wind ensemble). He is currently principal oboist with the Pilgrim Orchestra.

Teacher

As a teacher, he is on the faculty of the Pacific Coast School of music and has given a course on the history of musical instruments at Simon Fraser and UBC.

Narrator and Voice Actor

He is also a voice actor and has recorded several audio books and documentaries and frequently narrates and hosts live events. As a result of living in Mexico he is fluent in Spanish and often works in that language. The books he’s recorded for Post Hypnotic Press are listed below.

Jewish Community

In addition to a career in music and as a public speaker and voice actor, David Skulski has also been active in Jewish culture. He has served as President of the Peretz Centre for Secular Jewish Culture where he initiated such programs as ¡Festival Judío! a celebration of Latin American Jewish culture and Yiddish dancing. He studied Yiddish in Vilne (at the University of Vilnius) and performed there in a play by Goldfaden. David is currently working with Post Hypnotic on ‘The Zelmenyaners’, a novel he feels a particular bond to as his mother’s family is from Minsk.

Computer Consultant

He has also been a professional computer consultant for 32 years.
