James Paterson

James Paterson / JP has spent most of his life as an Artist and all his life as an “Imagineer,” creating and implementing the ideas originating deep within his heart and imagination. His wire creations, known as Prayer Machines, are a culmination of his professional work and childhood experiences growing up in the vibrant and visually textured Kensington Market area of Toronto, Canada. These story-telling machines evolved during a 3-year sojourn in Europe and are a wonderfully joyful expression guaranteed to bring a smile to anyone’s face.

​These works, made entirely of twisted wire, invite the viewer into a relationship through their swirling shapes and moving parts, giving expression to the mystery within each unique creation. The splashes of colour add to the joy of these wire structures, employing a proprietary technique James has developed. 

​JP’s Wire Sculptures have won numerous awards and received mainstream media coverage. His Prayer Machines, Play Machines and Engines of Joy have been found at top exhibitions in Canada, the United States, Europe, and Asia. They can be viewed in select galleries in Canada and the United States. 
 

JP’s wire creations are in private collections throughout Europe, Asia and across North America. Large signature pieces have been commissioned for The Hospital for Sick Children (Toronto, Canada), The University Hospital Cleveland Medical Center (Cleveland, Ohio), and the Lucille Packard Children’s Hospital (Stanford, California).

​JP and his wife, Lynn, currently reside in the beautiful Georgian Bay region of Ontario, Canada.
