Mark Bramhall began his professional career in 1967, as a member of the original company of William Ball’s American Conservatory Theatre in San Francsco. He has appeared in leading roles Off-Broadway, regionally, and at most Southern California venues. While a Resident Artist at California’s classical repertory theatre, A Noise Within, he starred in 34 productions. Some favorite roles include Virgil in Bus Stop, Charles in Blithe Spirit, Lucky in Waiting For Godot, Friar Lawrence in Romeo and Juliet, and both Benedick and Dogberry in separate productions of Much Ado About Nothing. His acting awards and nominations include LA Drama Critics Circle, Ovation, Garland, Dramalogue, LA Weekly and Robby honors, as well as numerous industry awards for his audiobook narrations. He is a recipient of the American Library Association’s 2016 Odyssey Award; has been cited annually by Publishers’ Weekly and AudioFile Magazine among their “Best Voices / Best Audiobooks of the Year,” from 2010 to the present; was a finalist for the Audiobook Publishers Association’s AUDIE Award in 2013; and, in 2016, a twice-nominated finalist and first-time winner of that award, for fiction narration. He won the AUDIE a second time in 2018, in the non-fiction category, and again, in 2019, with Meryl Streep, in a full-cast audio production of Charlotte’s Web.
He has also taught and directed at the American Academy of Dramatic Art, and coaches privately. His poetry and prose have won grants and residencies from The Ucross Foundation and The Lannan Foundation. Bramhall is married to actress, singer, dancer, teacher and best love, Christine Avila. He is also the proud father of four daughters who have given him six beautiful grandchildren.
