TRAINED IN PSYCHOLOGY, SCIENCE, AND FOOD POLICY

With an inter-disciplinary background, Eleanor explores individual choice and community environmental health. She earned an Honours B.A. in Psychology and Behavioural Sciences from the University of Chicago, and a PhD in Neuroscience from the University of British Columbia. She is passionate about food issues, and recently went back to school to earn an MSc in Food Policy from City University in London, England, studying global and local food systems. She spends a lot of time thinking about biological and psychological factors in well-being, and the wider impacts of our personal eating habits and practices.

AN EDUCATOR AND A WRITER

Eleanor loves to teach, and was a long-time instructor at Capilano College, Simon Fraser University and elsewhere. She had the privilege to teach undergraduates for a decade, and to lead instructional workshops for faculty. With her husband, Harley Rothstein, Eleanor co-wrote a book on how to be an effective university instructor. A communicator by nature, Eleanor worked as a journalist for a decade at newspapers and in television, including at the Toronto Star, Montreal Gazette, and Vancouver Sun. She writes articles on food and ecosystems.

BECAUSE PEOPLE WANT TO HEAR ABOUT SUSTAINABLE FOOD

Eleanor gives presentations on topics of food sustainability, personal and social change. She has facilitated discussions on these topics with student, business, and community groups. Eleanor’s presentations are inclusive, compassionate, and optimistic. She creates opportunities for people to share ideas and strategies for sustainable living and eating.
